What you will find at The Gimlet Traveler…

Posts about places we’ve visited will consist of the following:

  • summary of our general thoughts on the destination

  • The Gimlet Traveler Rundown on each destination, including a 1-5 star rating in the following categories:

    • GIMLETS — Can you get a good martini or anything else other than a gin & tonic or a glass of wine?

    • RESTAURANTS — Usually, these aren’t too too uber-haute in regards to the menu (The Gimlet Traveler is a picky eater), but we still like it a bit fancy and cool on the decor and service.

    • SIGHTS — Self explanatory

    • SHOPPING — We never met a home decor shop we didn’t like. Okay that’s not really true, but we do tend to most-enjoy shopping for things for our home. So if there are cool independent stores with interesting stuff, thumbs up. We do try to include the big department stores where applicable.

  • A review of our accommodation, also on a 5-star scale, with Editor’s notes where applicable.

  • An updated map of the destination including the places we stayed, visited, drank, ate, shopped, etc. This will often include other locations of note that we may not have been able to visit as well as additional hotel options. Also, we’ll update the map whenever we find new spots worth checking out.

  • Most posts have three photo galleries. These are photos we took on our trips (except for future destinations, obviously) — so, please excuse any imperfections!:

    • SIGHTS

    • DRINKS/EATS

    • HOTEL

For trips where we traversed multiple destinations there will be a separate Itinerary post regarding the specifics of our overall itinerary: how many nights in each destination, length of drive or train ride, whether you need a car, etc., plus a map of the route we chose to take.

For future destinations you’ll find thoughts on our tentatively planned itinerary along with our specific preferences if there are any (i.e. if we’ve already chosen a hotel). Below that, you’ll find a map with hotels, sights, restaurants, bars and shops that I have found through my research across multiple platforms and guide books — only those which might be of interest to the gimlet traveler of course!

And lastly, “GT TIPS” will be interspersed throughout the site when applicable. Hopefully you’ll find these little nuggets of information helpful!

Enjoy!
